Dan Spiers, Co-Founder and Partner
As the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at 2020, Dan supports clients with the management and execution of buy- and sell-side M&A transactions. In the last nine years, Dan has advised over 50 environmental and engineering consulting companies across North America and internationally and supported over 30 M&A transactions working directly with sellers, buyers and private equity owners. This includes M&A strategy development, identification of buyers and sellers, preparation of M&A marketing materials, and leading the outreach process to buyers or sellers, concluding with due diligence and successful deal closure. In his M&A role, he has also developed an industry network and contacts with more than 400 environmental and engineering firms across the globe. Dan is based in Seattle and heads up 2020's Pacific Northwest operations.
Dan is also a co-host and frequent presenter at the Environmental Business Journal and 2020 Environmental Industry Summit conferences, held each year in San Diego, Seattle, Boston and Houston.
Earlier in his career, Dan held positions with some of the largest Public Relations firms in the world. Based in Washington D.C., Dan served as the Senior Account Executive with Powell Tate|Weber Shandwick where he led PR campaigns for major clients such as Waste Management, Cisco Systems, The Federal Reserve Bank, and the European Union. He later joined Mediascape Global in Sydney Australia as Environmental Communications Practice Leader, and led Mediascape's expansion into the United States and startup in San Francisco.
Dan holds a Masters Degree from the University of New South Wales in International Law and International Relations with an emphasis on Environmental Law and Policy. Following his Masters Degree he earned a Certificate in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and M&A from University of California, Berkeley. Dan received his B.A in Politics and International Relations from University of California, Santa Cruz and also attended the London School of Economics Marketing Management Program.
